  • Making Good After Years Of No Action

When you live in a house from brand new, it is very easy to forget that things wear out just the same in a new house as they might in an old one. That once gloriously shiny new shower cubicle that delights every time you pop into the en-suite from the bedroom has a slight lustre instead of that bright glaringly shiny cubicle that invites your senses to make you want to jump back in. The youngsters in the house are the worst in that they can’t be bothered to wipe down the water droplets, in fact they don’t usually rinse off the soap suds after their hair and body wash. Over time these soapy suds wear away at the finish on the chrome effect surrounds – the water itself is generally hard in most areas, so that in itself will wear down any finish by leaving limescale marks and clods of debris that builds up over the months. The only way to stop this problem is to be very organised about the shower routine. I always finish a shower session by running a very quick sluice around the inside with the shower on the hottest setting – obviously avoiding any contact with hands or other bodily part. Once any suds and mess have been captured down the drain, I quickly dry all surfaces, starting at the top rail and working down along all the door runners with an e-cloth or other micro cloth that absorbs without leaving any fluff or steaks – including the shower head and fixings plus the shampoo rack etc.

My shower cubicles are hi tech glass like polypropylene and even after 20 years of almost daily use, now look again like new. I reached the point of dangerously low mobility and so engaged a cleaning lady. Where I was very pleased with my ‘clean’ cubicles and ultra shiny basin and surrounds – my word, from the moment my Mrs Mop entered my life, my en-suite has been made to look even more fantastic than the day the builder left it in my capable hands!
